Colours Of
Bramblewood
At
Bramblewood we do breed for colour
as well as health and temperament. We feel its nothing wrong in saying
people
breed for certain colours
as long as its not at the top of the
list and always comes behind Health and Temperament.
We have been quite lucky with
our
pairings and have produced some stunning colours.
Here we have produced :-
Albino, Apricot, Champaign, Red Eyed Cinnacot, Dark Cinnacot, Cinnamon, Brown, Choc, grey and Dark grey.
Snowflakes:- Champaign, Red Eyed
Cinnacot, Dark
Grey, Grey, Chocolate, Brown, Cinnamon and Dark Eyed Cinnacot.
We are currently working on Salt
n
pepper snowflakes and Apricot snowflakes.
Black eyed whites:-
We have produced a few litters
of
Black eyed whites, mostly they have only been Brown whites and
Chocolate whites.
We are hoping to produce whites
in a range of colours as we did with
snowflakes. Some confuse snowflakes with Black eyed whites. But here
our BEWs are born white and mostly stay white unitl quilling and then
go on to be whites.
We are quite proud to say all
our
colour results are done without inbreeding. We do except this happens
to produce certain colours, Just it does not happen at Bramblewood. I
am sure some breeders use this method and good luck to them. I
personally think working with animals that come from a very shallow
gene pool, that has already gone through a fair amount of line breeding
is a needless and slightly dangerous task. I do understand
inbreeding can be used as very helpful tool in breeding healthy hogs.
But not knowing the subject that well we choose to not use this tool.
But I am sure there are breeders out there who do know the best
way to work that form of breeding
There is no real secret to
colours, it comes down to careful planning
and a lot of luck.. It is a only a case of pairing up healthy happy
hogs with similar hets.
We have been lucky here and we normally
get quite varied litters. In
one of our last litters we had. :-
- Apricot
- Albino
- Cinamon
- Browns
- Grey
- Cinnacot

Plus and most of these snowflaked.
I would like to say it was all down to our breeding skills, but sadly
it wasn’t. Just we had a bit of luck.
As you can see we do produce varied litters in colour so we should be
able to offer u not only a friendly healthy little hog but also a
varied selection of colours.
