I have heard of a fair few colours in the Uk. Most of them are infact here, some sadly are some breeders getting carried away and making “colours” more complicated  than need be.

Here is a gallery of all the colours available in the UK.
Remember that accurate colour identification can only be performed after the age of 9 weeks.  Prior to that you are only looking at the juvenile colour. As well. the colour will begin to fade past the age of 1 years old.

Snowflakes

Snowflakes in theory can be produced in any colour that is already in the UK.  Just takes some careful planning and a bit of  luck.

There are some who say there is a dominate snowflake gene. Sadly this is not quite true. I have bred   the so called “dominate” snowflake gene to a hog with no snowflake in her line and guess what out of 6 babies none snowflaked. Also I have bred the same line to a brown flake and only 3 out of the 5 flaked. As you can see it does not seem very dominate. With snowflakes you need the male and female both to carry the snowflake gene as this gene is recessive.

Whites

At bramblewood hedgehogs, when our whites are born they are infact white from an early age and do not go on to develope banded quills. See photo below*. The whites are not just snowflakes that flaked well at 6-12 weeks of age. Here they are mostly white from baby to adult. We have had hogs that snowflaked and reached a very high% of white but do not become whites as such. But did do a good impression..lol :o)

Whites come in PLATINUM, SILVER CHARCOAL WHITE, CHARCOAL WHITE, CHOCOLATE WHITE,BROWN WHITE, CINNAMON WHITE. CINNACOT WHITE, CHAMPAGNE WHITE AND APRICOT WHITE.

Pinto
Pinto is a dominate gene, so you only need one carrier or visual pinto to pass on the traits.  As with snowflake it can appear on  any colour just needs careful planning and a bit of luck.
